About St. John Lutheran Church

Learn the history of our congregation

As a congregation, we rejoice in the knowledge that through faith, our members will receive a crown of life in Heaven. Since life in Heaven is forever, there is no better reward than that. When you worship with us, your time will be focused on the joy of knowing that Christ is our Redeemer and giving thanks to Him will bring you peace in this world and everlasting life in the next.

The story of St. John Lutheran Church began in a Lawton, OK home in 1912. Three families of Russian and German descent gathered regularly to grow spiritually and share their joys with their neighbors.

In November 1916, the church was established as a part of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The building sat at the corner of 7th Street and A Avenue. Proteges of Frank Lloyd Wright designed and built a new church in 1950. It was the first public building in Lawton with air conditioning. Over the years, our church community grew steadily. We added classrooms, office spaces and a fellowship hall in 1989. In 1996, we opened St. John Lutheran Preschool.
